Overview

The Tiyatiya Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC holds land in trust for the Kurungal people of Western Australia. Their native title rights and interests were recognised in Wise on behalf of the Kurungal native title claim v State of Western Australia [2015] FCA 1329 on 7 December 2015.

The Kurungal native title claim was first registered with the National native Title Tribunal in December 1997, and was amended twice, the last of which was in January 2012. The determination resulted in the Kurungal people being recognised as having non-exclusive native title rights to approximately 890 square kilometres of land and waters.

Following the determination, the Tiyatiya Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC was incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 in September 2015, with the determination taking effect on 1 December 2015.
