Overview

WALA Aboriginal Corporation acts as an agent for the native title rights and interests of the Western Arrernte and Anmatyerr speaking traditional owners of the area of land known as Kwerlerrethe, west of Alice Springs. The traditional owners belong to the Imperlknge, Urlatherrke, Parerrule, Yaperlpe, Urlampe, Lwekerreye and Ilewerr landholding groups.

The native title application was originally filed in May 2013. The traditional owners’ native title rights and interests were recognised in the Narwietooma determination of 16 June 2016. The determination covered the Narwietooma pastoral lease, where non-exclusive native title was recognised, and a portion of the nearby Dashwood Creek area, where exclusive native title was recognised.
