Overview

The Gurindji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC administers land on behalf of the Jiyilijurrung and Yilyilimawu Gurindji People who are members of four estate groups associated with the Karu (Children), Yiparrartu (Emu), Warrpawurru (Flying-Fox) And Nyirri (Cicada) Dreamings. Their ownership over the land was recognised in the Kalkarindji native title determination of 2014.

This case concerns a consent determination in relation to the land and waters in the Town of Kalkarindji. The area which is the subject of the proposed determination comprises approximately 5.7km2 and is the area within the outer boundaries of Lot 121 in the Town of Kalkarindji. The decision was made based on the agreement reached between the Northern Territory of Australia (the sole remaining respondent) and the Jiyilijurrung and Yilyilimawu Gurindji People who are members of four estate groups associated with the Karu (Children), Yiparrartu (Emu), Warrpawurru (Flying-Fox) And Nyirri (Cicada) Dreamings.
